Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays originated in the 1920s in Great Britain for the purpose of teaching wingshooting skills to wealthy sportsmen. Since then, it has expanded worldwide to become a huge tournament and recreational sport.

Unlike other clay shooting games that are built to rigid dimensions and specifications, sporting clays courses are designed to blend in with the environment. Eight to twelve stations are situated in fields or wooded locations (our course is predominately wooded) to simulate the flight characteristics of specific game animals (waterfowl, doves, rabbits, grouse, etc.). Targets may be presented singly or in doubles, high or low in the air, or along the ground.

"Speciality targets" are presented, such as batues, minis (60mm), standards (110mm), and rabbits. The great variety of landscapes, trap positions, trap speeds, shooting positions, and flight paths of the different types of targets makes this game very challenging. Sporting clays has been called "Golf with a Shotgun" for good reason: courses and shots are infinitely variable and no one is perfect!

A round of sporting clays consists of 50 target presentations. Fees are as follows:
Guests:$18 per round
Members:$12 per round

In order to better facilitate our member's enjoyment of the sporting clays range, members will have priority the first hour of operations beginning July 5th. From 8am till 9am, members will get first access to the sporting clay range. Guests will be permitted on the range after the member hour.
